England Hockey have developed a core set of resources plus two accompanying bolt on sets to assist with the delivery of the game

The core resource comprises of a teacher and coaches resource booklet including three sets of session plans and a series of 51 delivery cards. Two additional bolt-on resources are also available to support the introduction of goalkeepers, and to help with the development of In2Hockey umpires.

In general, the resources have been designed for use by teachers and coaches with young players aged 10-14. In schools this primarily corresponds to Key Stage 3 of the national curriculum (Years 7, 8 and 9). In clubs this content can be used across U11, U12, U13 and U14 age groups, depending on the ability and experience level of the players.

The In2Hockey resources have been carefully designed so that they:

  • Provide clear, concise information on organising and managing activities which can be used with a variety of young players, keeping them all engaged and involved
  • Offer a variety of linked and progressive activities for developing and applying the basic skills of In2Hockey
  • Are colour coded using a traffic light system to help coaches and teachers identify activities which are at an appropriate level for the group that they are working with
  • Include challenges that can be set up quickly and easily, and which are designed to encourage young players to make decisions and gain a greater understanding of the tactical aspects of playing invasion games
  • Aid progression from the FUNdamentals phase, through the Learning to Train and the Training to Train phases of the Long Term Athlete Development Model
  • Provide useful advice to teachers and coaches on:
    • Safety
    • Adapting games and differentiation
    • Equipment
    • Core teaching points
    • How to access more advanced coaching information
  • Provide additional supporting information to assist with the introduction of goalkeepers, and understanding and implementing the rules and developing umpiring skills
  • Can be delivered by a teacher, a coach or a young person under supervision
